Description:  The purpose of the Essential Practices in Early Literacy document is to increase Michigan’s capacity to improve children’s literacy by identifying a small set of research supported daily core literacy instructional practices. Two practices will be examined on separate days. Practice #4 which focuses on activities that build phonemic awareness and  practice #5 which focuses on explicit instruction in letter-sound relationships. These courses are for K-3 classroom teachers, interventionist, special educators, curriculum coordinators and ESL teachers.
