Jenelle joined Oakland Schools in 2017 following 18 years of experience in public schools at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. At the district level, Jenelle has served as a classroom teacher, IB Middle Years Programme Coordinator, Teacher Leader, and educational technology coach. She earned her Master’s Degree in Reading and Language Arts from Oakland University in 2003, and she holds a Reading Specialist K-12 endorsement. Jenelle has served as an IB Educator since 2013, leading professional development workshops for teachers, coordinators, and building leaders in IB World Schools. She also serves as an IB Examiner for e-Assessments in Language and Literature. An avid Google Suite user, Jenelle earned the status of a Google for Education Level I Certified Educator. She is currently working toward her Education Specialist in Leadership degree through Oakland University, and she looks forward to applying this learning to her work in the Leadership and School Improvement department at Oakland Schools.
In her role as Literacy Consultant, Jenelle is especially interested in ways to leverage technology to bring professional development to districts in Oakland County. Her training in Restorative Practices, Global Education, and the Institute for Healing Racism reflect her commitment to equity and inclusion in Oakland County and beyond. She brings her experience with curriculum development and mapping, authentic assessment, standards-based grading, Visible Thinking, and inquiry to her consultancy.
Jenelle is the proud mother of two children and a devoted partner to her husband. Her long-standing yoga practice helps her maintain balance and perspective, and she is making progress toward her goal of landing a handstand.
