Description: 

Dr. Janet Sturm and Dr. Gary Troia bring research on writing development and strategies across the age span (preschool-12th grade) to all teachers of writing.  Content includes evidence-based instructional practices, specialized instruction for intervention, and specialized core instruction for students with IEPs taught to alternate standards.

Intended Audience:  Special Education Teachers, General Education Teachers, Psychologists, Speech/Language Pathologists, and Teacher Consultants. Oakland County Public School  and Public School Academy employees only.

Dates and Times:  Participants will attend both BASICS sessions and select one or both of the BEYOND sessions according to their student and learning needs.

BASICS Sessions:  August 22-23, 2017 (all day)

BEYOND Sessions: September 27, 2017 (all day with Dr. Janet Sturm), October 20, 2017 (all day with Dr. Gary Troia)

Year 2- Strategies and Intervention Lab Classroom

For teachers who participated in Writing Growth & Progress in 2016-17 and are interesting in further study of Self-Regulated Strategy Development in in a demonstration classroom lab model.

Intended Audience:  Special Education Teachers, Speech/Language Pathologists and Teacher Consultants who participated in Writing Growth & Progress series. Oakland County Public School  and Public School Academy employees only.

Year 2- Lab Classroom Implementation Support for Beginning Writers

Description: 

Two full day sessions in host classrooms for participants of Writing Growth & Progress series who work with beginning writers.

Intended Audience:  Special Education Teachers, Speech/Language Pathologists,and Teacher Consultants who participated in Writing Growth & Progress series. Oakland County Public School  and Public School Academy employees only.

These workshops are designed as SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE opportunities for teachers of students taking M-STEP or MI Alternate Assessments who either provide core writing instruction to students with IEPs or provide writing intervention to students with IEPs who receive core writing instruction in the general ed classroom.  These opportunities are also helpful for general educators who teach writing to students at-risk or who have an IEP.
